With "42," the new Jackie Robinson movie about to premiere at movie theatres, here are some educational resources about the famous player who broke baseball's color barrier.

Major League Baseball (MLB) & Scholastic are jointly promoting the "Breaking Barriers" essay contest for elementary and middle school students. Details can be found here.

The Biography Channel website offers this background page on Robinson including a mini-bio video. Similarly,  The History Channel  website includes audio as well as video, an interactive timeline and photo gallery.

Here is a lesson plan for middle grades from the PBS Ken Burns "Baseball" series.

The MLB Network has special programming on Jackie Robinson Day: April 15, including  1950's "The Jackie Robinson Story," (4:30pm ET April 15) in which the ballplayer portrays himself.
