Bring the noise and the funk!
Talk to you soon,
RRG:)
I was a high school English teacher for a while, then a central office coordinator of English, social studies and foreign languages, then a whole bunch of other administrative roles--all here in Durham. I met Wendy as the Durham County Schools liaison to the Literacy through Photography project.
While a classroom teacher I taught an elective course in mass communications (hence my interest in media literacy). While a grad student at UNC in the early 1980s I was a TA for the film criticism class, which I taught for four semesters. (Some of my former students are now Hollywood directors, though I can't really take credit for that.)
I started doing workshops for teachers about including film in the English curriculum, and eventually wrote a book with Ann Wilder called Reel Conversations: Reading Films with Young Adults (Heinemann, 1997).
For the last 20 years or so I have also taught English methods in Duke's MAT program. Now retired from the school system, I teach at Duke, do some consulting, and occasionally hang out with weirdos like Ryan (at least when he lets me).
It's great that you already know about Wendy's work. I'm in awe of the stuff she's accomplished around the world.
