COLLECTION: Movies & Historical Accuracy + The article Argo was based on

With “Argo,” “Lincoln” and “Zero Dark Thirty” up for awards the editorial du jour column is about movies and historical accuracy. For me this is a silly debate as movies are drama not history, but will concede that the power of mass media to create popular histories is one movie makers do need to consider. ARTICLE: Oscars and American history: True, or true enough?

And the Oscar for Historical Accuracy goes to.....

Also in the news I bring you "Up For Oscars, But Historically Inaccurate?"from NPR / WBUR in Boston:

A clip from that radio piece..

Then, "Confronting the Fact of Fiction and the Fiction of Fact" in the New York Times...

And lastly, the New Yorker did a great overview of the CNN / Piers Morgan interview with Jimmy Carter - “ARGO”: THE JIMMY CARTER EXPERIENCE. Screen shot anyone?

If you have not read the Wired article "The Great Escape" that Argo was based on it is a great read - you can find it as a PDF HERE. FWIW, Argo is very PG-13 and super teachable. I did it in a film class this fall.
