Alicia, the best way to ask this question would be to post it in the DIscussion forum of the New Media and Tech Groups and the American Lit Groups. Since not everyone is an ELA teacher here you might explain it is a Hawthorne short story and give a short summary.

Some quick ideas:

You could have them make a Mind Map of the story using trial versions of Inspiration.

You could have them create voice threads of the story:

You could have them make comic interpretations of the story using, or or

You could have them create MySpace of Facebook pages for the characters - Lauren drops a template here.
