Thanks...I do like the second one better and am more passionate about that one. Pam, I'm interested in how you would outline the proposal.
Ry.... :)

Stephanie,
I have a great outline for your proposal. I like the second topic better.

My research methods class is driving me a bit bonkers. Unfortunately my Master's program didn't prepare for me for doctoral work (it was mainly practicum work) so I am trying all avenues to help with my learning curve. I am currently doing literature reviews and wading my way through the concepts. I don't think that I have a specific question to pose...just rambling a bit, I guess.

As far as my proposal, I am between two topics (which I need to hurry up and decide b/c it's due next month for this class). The first was done with help from my professor and classmates after I volunteered to share my idea. The second came from "shooting the breeze" with Ry :)
1. Degree of Role Conflict as a teacher transitions to administration withing a given school
2. The extent of social/professional power maintained by Asst. Principals who are often "Caught in the Middle" (between principal and teachers)

....and so it goes. ANY feedback is welcomed :)

Ryan, I'm in DC at George Washington U.

Robert, thanks for asking more about my topic. I am doing a qualitative study. I'm looking at the ways preservice teachers socialize develop professional identities, and defining "identity" as socially constructed, fluid, and comprised of multiple subjectivities, beliefs, etc. Teachers are more than the sum of their experiences in a teacher ed program. Memories of elementary school experiences, messages about teachers from family, friends, media, etc. all inform how who they are and how they view teaching and learning, and what kind of teacher they'll be. I'll be interviewing preservice teachers about their decision to teach and their experiences so far student teaching, etc., and analyzing the narratives. That's the short of it.

I see I have to put a photo up. I'll get to work on that. Looking forward to talking more.

Pam, have you developed any potential research questions?

Tremendous!!! We can use your help. My dissertation topic revolves around the avid teacher reader. I am still in the lit review phase and have more to read, but the topic is really fascinating and I am in an area that I love.

Thanks Dr. Zenhausern....I will share some time next week after I meet with my group for my other class. I will definitely need help in Statistics. I never had to take it before in any of my studies so I am at a bit of a disadvantage. I picked up Statistics in Plain English by Urdan to begin preparing.
BTW Ryan, we are cool!

Robert - uhh, that's probably good advice!

It looks like a pretty cool crew here - great idea you had!!

Jessica - where are you at?

Stephanie, feel free to share your proposal at the earliest stages. It is never too soon to get help no matter how half formed an idea may be.

Also, if you need help in the Research Methods course, this is a good forum for it. Statistics too. But I assume none of you needs help in stat.
