Comment by Ashley Tice on June 25, 2011 at 9:46am: I just read Teasley and Wild's Reel Conversations book for a grad class that I'm taking. I cannot wait to implement it into my classroom next year. The section in the back of the book where it breaks down the different themes in YA films is phenomenal!

I use a modified version of this activity from Mr. Snyder at Pinehurst High school in Florida to teach local geographic literacy to both my AP Geography class and my Chicago History/Geography class. Comment by Pam Goble on April 3, 2010 at 9:08am: Teasley and Wilder's book is tremendous for you to get on the right page with this. I teach a grad class where all must view a YA film. I will send you the reflection sheet as soon as spring break is over; it's on my desk top at school.

I recently started a film unit with a year 9 gifted class, and we actually watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It is one of my favourite movies, and I told my class that even though it is old (to them) it is still really applicable to their lives.

They LOVED it. And they got a lot of the subtle humour and jokes in there. We're kind of not going to get into detail about the actualy movie, because our film study focus in on MAKING a short movie, but I wanted to examine a movie from a different era. Jogh Hughes (the director) is great to have the students research, because he is well known for using particular movie techniques in most of his films. I had my students research these, and they've learnt a lot about movie techniques that aren't really used today.

So that's my two cents!
